Mount Kilimanjaro Climbing Itinerary for 9 Days
The Whiskey Route (also known as Machame Route) — The Most Popular
Keywords: 6-7 days, beautiful scenery, high summit success rate
Recommendation Index: ★ ★ ★ ★ ★
The Whiskey Route is currently the most popular climbing route. The overall feeling of the climb is akin to whiskey – it's somewhat spicy yet not difficult to drink, leaving an endless aftertaste.
Reasons for recommending this route:
1. The Whiskey Route allows climbers to more directly experience the landscape changes from tropical rainforests to alpine snow-capped mountains.
2. It helps climbers fully acclimate to the high-altitude climate, preventing severe altitude sickness on the last day.

The summit push will begin at 11 PM, and after 5-6 hours, climbers will reach Stella Point to witness the sunrise. During the nighttime ascent, the surroundings will be pitch black, so it is crucial for climbers to stay close to their guides. This is a moment of extreme challenge, with steep mountain paths and the peak time for severe altitude sickness symptoms. From Stella Point, it takes approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour to reach the 5895-meter-high Uhuru Peak, the highest point of Mount Kilimanjaro. However, climbers should not stay at the summit for long. After a brief celebration, they will start their descent, first back to Barafu Camp for lunch, and then continue down to Mweka Camp for the night's rest. This final part of the journey is physically demanding but also rewarding as climbers reflect on their accomplishment of reaching the roof of Africa.
